Dr Christina Daley

Our very own instructor of Health Policy and Administration, Dr. Christina Daley, spoke for ACHCA this Monday to share her experiences in long-term care and how she got to where she is today. In college, Dr. Daley studied Sociology and Gerontology, and from there went on to direct an Alzheimer's unit. In her career, she has worked in both for-profit and non-profit organizations, and says they are both equally as rewarding in their own ways.

Dr. Daley's advice was to think about long-term care as a continuum, meaning that, although nursing homes may come to mind when you say long term care, it has evolved to include independent living, hospice, home care, acute care providers, and in-patient-rehab. She stressed the importance of remembering that there are a lot of opportunities with a lot of good people. This lends itself to many career resources that we don't always think about. Even if you are not directly working in long term care, you will be working with older adults and Medicare.
