Gerontology

Geriatrics is the study of health and disease in later life. People are living longer and the number of older adults is increasing. If you are interested in health care, you will undoubtedly interact with elderly patients or family members. The ACHCA club at Penn State introduces students to the problems faced by the aging population, and seeks to develop leaders in health care.

Topics we cover:​

As a long-term health care club, we always host guest speakers from elite retirement communities including Foxdale Village, Windy Hill Village, and Juniper Village. Students interested in Administrator-in-Training programs or looking to be activity directors often seek internships at these types of facilities. 

​

We also have club members interested in government and policy issues, which is why the ACHCA has hosted representatives from places like the Centre County Office of Aging. This department provides a variety of services to assist elders facing neglect, exploitation, or abandonment issues. 

​

For ACHCA members interested in hospital setting work, we host directors from places like Susquehanna Health and Aramark Health. Whether your interests be human resources, nutrition, or medicine- students always enjoy these guest presentations.
