Chad Evans

On November 6th, Executive Director of Westminster Woods, Chad Evans spoke to ACHCA. Westminster Woods is a 64 bed senior living campus in Huntington Pennsylvania.Chad also spoke about becoming a licensed nursing home administrator, and what steps are required to do so.

1. Graduate with a bachelors degree

2. Take the 120 hour program certificate program

3. Get practical training in an administrator in training program(AIT)(1,000 hours)

4. Take the NHA exam

Chad then went on to tell of how one might get accepted into an AIT program. First, network, network, network. Chad urged ACHCA members to cold call administrators and shadow as many people as possible.He mentioned that an AIT program will lay out how many hours you must spend with each director. Keep in mind that volunteering the 1,000 hours is an option as well!

Chad left ACHCA with saying that the most successful people are those who network, did informational interviews, and didn't take no for an answer. We were shown that it takes endurance to be a nursing home adminstrator, but at the end of the day the hard work pays off.
